The superior hypogastric plexus is also a continuation of the abdominal aortic plexus.
Chromaffin paraganglia ( also called chromaffin bodies ) are connected with the ganglia of the sympathetic trunk and the ganglia of the hypogastric plexuses.
From this plexus arise part of the spermatic, the inferior mesenteric, and the hypogastric plexuses; it also distributes filaments to the inferior vena cava.
Some other plexuses include the hypogastric plexus, renal plexus, hepatic plexus, splenic plexus, gastric plexus, pancreatic plexus, and testicular plexus / ovarian plexus.
They are found in the same region as the pelvic splanchnic nerves, which arise from the sacral spinal nerves to provide parasympathetic fibers to the inferior hypogastric plexus.
The inferior hypogastric plexus is a paired structure, with each situated on the side of the rectum in the male, and at the sides of the rectum and vagina in the female.
